| Some photos become special because they show ordinary situations in a unique light. This image is a woman in the late afternoon sun, where the skin tones and the earth tones around the face blend; where the detail in the shadowed face and soft, relaxed expression give a sort of renaissance quality to what might otherwise have been an "ordinary" portrait. Shot on the rocky beach at Rota, a fishing village on the Bay of Cadiz, in southwestern Spain, it is a 35mm Ektachrome slide, 55mm lens, maybe 1m from the subject, hand-held and backlit by the setting April sun.
